The main reason my
practice adopted digital radiography is that it reduces patient exposure to
radiation by as much as 90% compared to film, thus making it safer for my
patients.
Digital radiography is more efficient than film. Patients no longer have to sit idle in a chair for 10 to 15 minutes, while a member of my staff develops the X-ray films. With the digital system, images are displayed immediately. This is a benefit for my patients, for me and my staff.
With digital radiography there are no chemicals or lead film to dispose of. This is a benefit to the environment and our staff.
Viewing the digital radiographs on the computer screen plus computer enhancement of the images increases the diagnostic capabilities for the doctor. This also allows my patients to better understand the diagnoses and treatment recommendations because they can actually see the basis for the decisions.
Electronic submission of digital radiographs to insurance carriers speeds the pre-authorization process which enables us to begin treatment sooner.
